City of Atlanta Awards “Home Energy Makeover” Worth More Than $22,000 in Efficiency Improvements

VIS VIVA partners with the City of Atlanta’s SHINE program to award one local family with over $22,000 in home energy efficiency improvements!

The St. Clair home was plagued with old, drafty windows and doors, little or no floor, wall and roof insulation, an old AC unit and no air and vent sealing throughout this 1925 historic midtown home. VIS VIVA worked with other local suppliers to provide the winning home with a new HVAC unit, a front door and water-saving devices, as well as upgraded insulation, weatherstripping and air sealing.

Many homeowners think they have to live with similar comfort problems, but there are a number of measures that can improve the health, comfort, and performance of even the oldest homes. With incentives and rebates available through programs like SHINE and Georgia Power EarthCents, these improvements are very cost effective and have short payback times, and dramatically improve the comfort of a space.

SHINE is a federal grant-funded program offering City of Atlanta homeowners the ability to get up to $3,500 towards air sealing, insulation improvement, weatherstripping, caulking, and the replacement of leaky doors and windows. Since the fall of 2010, SHINE-approved contracting firms have completed more than 260 energy efficiency improvement jobs awarding nearly $370,000 in rebates to Atlanta homeowners.
